Broome Thursday 6th August 2009

Today was meant to be a rest day. So we went into town to look at some of the places we hadn’t seen.

Walking through Chinatown we found a great gallery behind the open air cinema where we clambered up the stairs and into a photographic exhibition and multimedia display of Art in Nature. it was called Creatures of the Giant Tides. This was extraordinary photography being macro photographs of tiny mangrove tree snails which are the size of an average fingernail. Mostly taken right where we are staying in the tidal zone of Roebuck Bay. Check it out at www.gianttides.com.au

It was then on to see some aboriginal art- of Walka Putitja- Artworks from the Desert. See www.shortsgallery.com

It was an extremely hot day so we found ourselves in the Roey one of Broomes oldest pubs. www.roey.com.au Here a gentle mist of cool water is sprayed from numerous nozzles around the courtyard keeping everyone just that little bit cooler which we really enjoyed, along with a couple of the coldest beers in town.

Back to the caravan for lunch and a rest and then a walk to the museum ,which had closed for the day, so it was on to Matso’s which is a boutique brewery that makes some really exotic beers which we sampled most of, from a Monsoonal blonde wheat beer to a Chilli beer! Then having a couple of glasses before walking back  to the caravan park to pick up the car so we could return for the curries that they are also well known for. We arrived back there too late at 7pm and found the place was booked out, so we gave it a miss and made our own. Perhaps we will try again another evening.
