Well we are still here in Broome, in fact we are almost beginning to feel like locals, so much so that after we had attended a local get together of the “Save the Birds of Roebuck Bay” they wanted us to sign up and go on the mud flats to help them record the birds seen and their movements etc. It was a shame we had to decline! However it was very interesting and we enjoyed the new DVD they have put together showing how these waders fly a return trip to Siberia to breed and then returning to the Bay. That’s 12 thousand K non stop and the same again returning and 90% make it. We intend to go out to the bird observatory tomorrow to see some of our new friends once again. www.broomebirdobservatory.com
We have been going off road and driving and walking the cliffs and finding some of the way out beaches.
We also made our way down to the port again to catch the ORION just clearing the wharf after we we had heard on the UHF radio that they were trying to get a passenger down to her before she left. I hope she made it!
It was also interesting to see the road trains bringing truck loads of live cattle down to the wharf to be loaded on to the live cattle carrying ships.
We have checked out the Buddha temple just behind the Cable Beach Resort where you can have some peace and tranquillity and do some yoga classes.
Today we heard on the news that they had to shoot a 3.5 mtr crocodile that was in Dampier Creek which is not too far from the town beach, where we are and that they have their eye on another one that has been coming a little bit too close for comfort. We shall have to keep one eye open when we are swimming! Or may be two eyes open to be safe! and swim with other people near by to reduce the odds.
We also visited the Broome Historical Society Museum www.broomemuseum.org.au and spent some time reading all about the history of the place and chatting to the authors, the Normans, who wrote the book “A Pearling Masters Journey” which was all about his father and some of Broomes history, taking them 10 years to put it all together. www.pearlingmaster.com
We are very comfortable in our Jayco and are enjoying the down time by reading, walking, sightseeing, even some drawing and painting and of course meeting other travellers who all have a story to tell.
We haven’t watched TV since we left home ,except I did see some of the State of Origin and one Manly game, other than that we haven't really missed it.
We leave here on the 18th when we head off to one of the National Parks where we will spend some time, though it will be after we have visited 80 mile beach for a few days.
Its a warm 24degC evening, Beatrice is reading and our resident Tawny Frog Mouth (Owl) ? is making his usual call, non stop, all night……….We are now quite use to it and have been observing more and more of the bird life, especially the beautiful white breasted sea eagles and those on the mud flats.
The other day we were quite startled to have a small kangaroo jump past us as we sat outside having our lunch. Haven’t seen any since.
Almost forgot we also checked out the Broome Golf Course in case anybody might be interested in having a round or two.

This is where the hovercraft go on and off from the beach
We feel as though we have almost become locals and have even been looking in the real estate windows! They have some magnificent houses here!
