We had decided that we would like to stay in Broome a little longer so as to enjoy the warmer weather and really have a good look around and to have a bit of a rest from constantly being on the go and putting the Jayco up and down every day when we on the move.
After checking with the office we were told we could extend provided we moved from our current location to another in the park as our place was really for buses and it was needed from Sunday onwards. So we reluctantly agreed and after we had been through the whole process of packing everything up to move we felt much happier in our new spot as it was much closer to the beach and under the shade of a couple of large trees. As a result we extended until August 11th which was the maximum they allow for casual bookings. We were happy with that as we had a good opportunity to have some down time and do some reading and painting and really have a good look around Broome and the surrounding area.
All this took us until about 2. 30pm after which we went for a walk into the park and towards the town. As we walked through Bedford Park we checked out the replica of a chest belonging to
- William Dampier and the War Memorial honouring the dead with the names of the British, American and Dutch servicemen and civilians who lost their lives when a fleet of Japanese zeros made a daring air bombardment of Broome destroying sixteen Dutch flying boats anchored in Roebuck Bay, right where we are staying and where we can see the wrecks of some of the aircraft when it is a very low tide.
- We walked on round to Matso’s brewery and the art gallery next door which we had a look at briefly. We will come back another day for a better look and to sample some of the locally made brew.
- We had wandered some distance so we headed back to the caravan park for our evening drink and to prepare dinner.
