DARWIN 20th July

Darwin Monday 20th July

Clear blue skies, over night about 23 deg and then32 deg through the day. Beautiful tropical weather in Darwin

Up early so we could sort out the car which we managed to arrange at Ultratune in Palmerston a suburb about 20kms south of Darwin and not far from where we are staying. With the car serviced and given a clean bill of health we headed into Darwin itself. We could hardly remember it from our previous visits. We walked around the new mall they have built, found the pub we all had a drink at which is now in the mall and then walked down to the Esplanade and to Doctors Gully where Aquascence was located to see the fish being fed.

Twice a day this occurs and hundreds of fish come into the bay and put on quite a scene.

From there we checked out the deckchair outdoor cinema to see what film was being shown, however it wasn’t to our taste so we gave that a miss and went on to have a look at the Darwin Waterfront Development that was taking place where apartment buildings, shops etc are being built. Darwin is going ahead in leaps and bounds, with a population of 220000 it is a very prosperous place and they say anyone who wants a job can find one here. Of course the cost of living and the real estate has also risen over the last few years. The average age in Darwin is about 28 and it also has the highest proportion of children under the age of 15.

It was then on to the Fishermans Wharf for dinner where we enjoyed a meal and a drink and whilst watching the sun set before heading home in the dark for a good night’s sleep.
