28th September Streaky Bay

Went for a walk into town this morning and did the historic walk around the streets following the map showing all the old buildings and events from the development of Streaky Bay which was originally called Flinders and then returned to the name given by Matthew Flinders which was Streaky Bay because of the appearance of streaks in the water when he visited here on his circumnavigation of Australia. We were well wrapped up as the wind factor really brought the temperature down to about 14deg, however the sky was blue and as the day progressed it did warm up.

Streaky Bay to Adelaide 015

After lunch we took to the car and drove out to Bauer Point and  on the way stopped and walked down to Hallys beach before reaching the point and walking to the blow holes on the cliff tops.

Streaky Bay to Adelaide 010 Here it was very rugged and dangerous which is the reason the council was having a magnificent board walk built out across the sand dunes and across the top of the cliffs, not only for the safety of the visitors but also to prevent further erosion by people trampling across the rocks and sand.

It was a good drive and we managed to get a really good perspective of the area which is still very much unspoilt from its inception back in the early 1900’s. The weather really changed for the better by the afternoon becoming quite warm and with the wind abating it became quite pleasant.

Purchased a dozen oysters at the local outlet which were very enjoyable and quite inexpensive.

Tomorrow we will head down to Port Lincoln.
