Wednesday 2nd September

Carnarvon to Denham

The journey was much the same with little low bushes and very flat. We aw lots of feral goats which are causing a real problem with the damage they do to the environment . So much so that they have put into place a eradiation programme to try and reduce the numbers. Again a lot of dead wildlife though it was good to see a few emus roaming around. We turned off the North West Coastal Highway on to Shark Bay road for another 128 kms which took us into Denham. The road was very straight as we headed north once again and quite hilly as we passed through the heathland, with little flowering bushes and trees about 8-10 feet high. The wild flowers were out with shocking pink everlastings and flowering bushes.

DENHAM- Population 1,200 Name derived from Captain H. H.Denham who charted the whole bay in 1858.

We came into Denham and did a drive through along the beach front before turning about and pulling into the Blue Lagoon Caravan Park where we checked in for a two night stay.  Denham 007

Having set up we walked out and along the beach front  stopping  to chat to the fishermen who were just back from a days fishing and were in the process of gutting the fish they had caught.

Some of them have been coming  up to Denham from May to Mid September for the last 15 or so  years so they can fish and escape the winter down south.
