Today we continued out 23 km on the Shark Bay Road to Monkey Mia over on the east side of the Peron Peninsula. Here is where they hand feed the dolphins. We have been here before about 15 years ago and not much has changed over the years except that they now charge to enter the area.
To us it appears as though its just another grab for money using the excuse that its to pay for the protection and control of the dolphins that are in the bay. This is the only place, outside of a National park, that whilst on our trip around Australia that we have ever had to pay to go into an area to be able to walk on the beach or have a cup of coffee and something to eat. We were not impressed!
From here we went back for lunch and then drove out to the Eagle Bluff where a very impressive board walk had been built along the cliff top which enabled you to look down on the bay and out to see the bird life on Eagle Island.
Here the marine life can usually be seen but as the water temp was still quite cool we were not lucky enough to see much except for one small stingray. However the scenery was quite magnificent and when the water temp becomes warmer we’re sure it would be a great place to view the marine life.
Later that day I visited the the Discovery and Visitor Centre in Denham, a new building that was a full of the history of the area and why Shark Bay is World Heritage listed.
