Monday 1st June
First day of winter.
We decided to leave Tamworth and see if we could get the stabilizer leg repaired in Uralla where we saw a caravan repair place yesterday.
Our first time packing up from having been living in the trailer for a few days. Had breakfast etc and at 8.00 commenced pack up. I’m sure we’ll get better at it. I suppose it’s all about having a set routine. Now just to get Beatrice organised.....................Just joking, it’s a joint effort. Anyhow it took us until 9.30 before we were ready to start our journey to Warwick in Queensland, failing that we would stop at in Stanthorpe. No problems towing except for some of the hill climbs which really gave the X-Trail a work out and made it very thirsty. In Uralla we found Graham Betts the caravan repair place and found them to be very helpful. No problem just leave the trailer for an hour and he would get it done. So we unhitched and drove into town for a cup of coffee. True to his word and an hour and $50 later we were on our way again. Came up trumps on this one as in Tamworth a place there had quoted us $140! Kept driving up and down the hills on through to Guyra which boasts as having the highest caravan park in Australia. We kept going, driving very easy, not much traffic and the roads good. A beautiful sunny and cool day ranging from 10-14deg. Up and down the dales through the country side, all much the same, rocky, trees, scrub, cattle and sheep grazing and the small cluster of houses and shops boasting no more than a couple of hundred people. On to Glen Innes which brought back memories from 29 years ago when we were living in Inverell. Stopped at a trucking lay-by and had our sandwiches and a cup of coffee. Not going to make it to Warwick before night fall so decided on Stanthorpe. A quick check of the Caravan Parks Australia wide book www.caravanparksaustraliawide.com and there were a few to chose from. First one we came to seemed to fit the bill. A senior’s special for a powered site at $15. As luck would have it we had a drive through site given to us and in less than half an hour we had it all set up and were sitting down to a cup of tea a little after that. Not bad really, so we felt quite pleased with how we handled it all. We‘ll get even better with practice I’m sure. Advised that the pipes might freeze over night so we had to get our water from the amenities block. Wow, they were heated and had the best set up we had ever seen. Dinner and an early night was on the cards. Unable to get any signal on Telstra for the net. So much for the 99.9% wide coverage they boast about. Still I suppose we can say we had found the .01% they don’t cover. !!!!!! .So until tomorrow when we hope to make it to Childers North of Gympie! And of course the warmer weather!
